11 Commandments of Performance Reviews
NCAE
Teachers are required by statue and local board policies to perform their duties adequately.
This is a responsibility virtually all of you embrace regardless of the law. Of course, what is adequate & from your
perspective may not be adequate to your supervisor or administrator. At some point, this difference of opinion may begin to
have major impact on your job (not to mention your mental health).
The information is intended to help you when you encounter performance-related problems.
The Commandments:
1. Contact your local NCAE UniServ immediately!
2. Do not make a rash decision or resign.
3. Protect yourself at meetings.
4. Exercise your right to rebut.
5. Consider a grievance.
6. Take your Individual Growth Plan very seriously.
7. Keep in mind "who" your audience is.
8. Solicit help when necessary.
9. Have other people observe you.
10. Consider your audio-visual alternatives.
11. Don't take chances when you are under the gun.
Additionally, in this technological world, remember to document everything, each visit to you classroom, each suggestion
or recommendation, each discussion with peers and supervisors, and then e-mail everyone with your impressions and expectations
as to what was requested, required, stated and when things get done. If under the gun, e-mail your UniServ representative
and copy them on your other email.
